Climbing Snowdon & Lifestyle Lessons

If you had a read of my post detailing what I got up to on a recent family holiday in Wales, then you will have seen that we climbed Mount Snowdon! Snowdon is the highest mountain in England and Wales (us Scots have beaten you there, rest of the UK) so it was definitely not an easy feat. I had so many photos that I thought I would make Snowdon its own post.

My family and I have gone hiking for years, so I didn't have any problems with the walking per se, it was just that it was very steep. I don't know why I expected anything different from a mountain. I found it difficult to keep up with my family at times, but once I had established my own pace, it was plain sailing from there. My dad has climbed Snowdon a handful of times and has actually completed the Three Peaks Challenge, so his promises of an excellent view kept spurring us on.

And boy, was he right. By some miracle, the clouds that we were walking through cleared right as we stepped up to the summit, and we were met with spectacular views of the surrounding landscape - we could even spot the house where we were staying in! It also felt so rewarding slapping my hand on the checkpoint! We climbed the 1,085m mountain in about 3.5 hours, which for my first ever mountain, I'm really pleased with.

The climb did teach me how unfit I am, though. I'm a small person so people often assume that it comes from exercise, but it's certainly not. The climb left me very sore for the next three days, and I know I could have walked much faster if I was fitter. So, I've started to exercise (shock horror, right?!). I now start my mornings with a yoga workout, and although it's nowhere near as strenuous as mountain climbing, I think it's a really good option for me. I turn my nose up at any exuberant exercise, so this is a nice way for me to learn how to tone my body, control my breathing, and have a healthier lifestyle!

Coupled with a more balanced diet, I've been feeling a lot healthier recently, so I'm really going to try and keep this up. I hope you enjoyed these photos! I would love to know how you stay fit and healthy, so please feel free to let me know in the comments!
