On Loving Yoga

I've dabbled in the odd bit of yoga practice over a couple of years, but I've recently fallen in love with it. Thanks to Anna from Vivianna Does Makeup's suggestion, I headed over to Yoga With Adriene's YouTube channel, and I haven't looked back.

For a few months now, I've been doing some more intense workouts via FitnessBlender, but YWA is clearly what I've been missing. Yoga is a lot more involved and sweat-inducing than you would think and seeing as I'm a weakling who hates extremely vigorous exercise, I've found it's perfect for me.

Adriene is such a babe - she is hilarious, beautiful inside and out, and so so helpful! I find she teaches how to learn the moves and explains that everything is a process, rather than telling you what to do and leaving it at that. The latter method, I've found, makes you feel frustrated when you can't get the move just right, and so I far prefer Adriene's method of teaching!

In terms of outcomes, I definitely have found myself slowly becoming more flexible, my posture is becoming so much better, and my strength is increasing a little too. I can now touch my toes which I haven't been able to do since I was much younger, which has made me so giddy. I still can't get my damn heels down on the ground in downward dog, but with these videos I don't feel bad about it at all - I instead think it's amazing that I've almost reached that stage! The same goes for my strength - I'm very petite and dainty so I think it's partly my build that makes me a bit of a weakling, but with just a few weeks of practice I can already notice a difference.

Currently, I have just finished YWA's 30 Days of Yoga Challenge (!!!), but before that I was using her Beginner's Yoga videos to familiarise myself with the basics. I strongly recommend if you are a beginner and want to get into the practice to give it a shot! It's honestly made me so happy with my body (both with the mechanics and superficial aspects) and so I can't rave about this channel enough! Soon I'm going to write up a post with specific favourite videos of hers, so look out for that if you would like some more recommendations. Until then, Namaste!
