I used L'Oreal's new hair dye range, specifically the Colorista Pink Wash Out Dye. My hair is bleached, but it basically never takes pastel dyes so I was expecting nothing, and oh my god it turned my hair pink. I left the dye on for 20 minutes (5 minutes more than recommended) as my hair has always been stubborn at taking to dye, and once I washed it out and my hair dried I was a little shocked! I didn't mind it, but I was surprised that it actually worked. It's worth noting that it was also really conditioning which is always nice for a hair dye.
The dye does wash out quite fast, but that was something I was looking for as I only wanted to try it out. It says it lasts 2-4 washes on the box and for me it did take 4 washes - but keep in mind that I left the dye on for longer so it probably would have been 2 or 3 washes if I'd followed the instructions to the tee. I personally loved my hair after 2 washes - it was a lovely pastel shade.
So, onto my reason. For the April issue of Magdalen Magazine, my friend Maddie wrote an article for my section about dyeing your hair crazy colours, and how uni is the best time to do this. If you'd like to read her article then look here - I wrote one on my views of Fashion Week if you're interested! She essentially inspired me to stop umming and ahhing about trying it out and to go for it, and as I was turning 21 that week I was feeling a bit lost and... you know how it is, sometimes you just need to change your hair when you're feeling confused about life.
I'll be honest, although I loved having pink hair I didn't feel like it totally suited me. I'd feel amazing with makeup on, but without it I felt like it brought out all the redness in my face. I also struggled with dressing for about four weeks (remember I only wash my hair once a week folks) because nothing in my wardrobe went with the pink - I was stuck between wearing all black or wearing pink and feeling so matchy. I did love that my hair coordinated nicely with my nude pink lipsticks though! Despite my minor struggles, I'm not going to rule out dyeing it again, especially as the L'Oreal Colorista range has so many pretty colours that wash out. For now though, I'm happy to stay a blonde.
