We all know that highstreet makeup isn't anything to sniff at, but I've got to admit that I do love high end makeup. I think as long as you find a product that works amazingly, it's totally worth the money, especially as you use makeup most days! On that note, here are the beauty bits I'm more than happy to fork out for...
So let's start off with a lip duo. I love the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Pillow Talk, and the Lip Cheat Liner in the same shade. I actually bought the liner first and loved it for months until she released the lipstick which I snapped up immediately as the shade is a great your-lips-but-better option for me! It's one of those nude pink colours which lets you get away with over-drawing your lips - but even if you don't you're left with plump looking lips and a matte lipstick that doesn't dry them out. I don't always use the two together (I mostly just stick to the lipstick) but if I want something more precise and longer-lasting I'll pair them up. Otherwise, the liner is used under other nude lipsticks!
When it comes to foundation I'm not a pro at luxury prices, but the IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream has to be one of the best bases I've tried, ever. It had a good medium coverage (more if you layer, and no it doesn't cake up when you do) but feels so lightweight on the skin, and looks amazingly glowy without being shiny - it really does look like 'your skin but better.' I love how it's in a plastic tube but still has a pump, as it's light and compact without being a mess. I've almost run out of my first tube and I can't wait until a new one arrives - I'm even going to buy it in shade Light too so I don't need to keep loading the bronzer on top of Fair when I've got a tan!
I've not tried many Hourglass products but I use the Ambient Lighting Blush in Mood Exposure every time I do my makeup. I find the formula of the powder means it lasts for ages, and the colour itself it so lovely. It looks a bit meh in the pan, but on the cheeks it's a gorgeous natural flush that goes with any look. This is actually the only blush I own - I got rid of my others because I didn't use them for a year!
If you'd asked me a few months ago what YSL product I'd recommend, it would 100% be the classic Touche Eclat Complexion Highlighter. However, in recent months I have been using their Glow Shot in Shade 3 daily. This is a liquid highlighter that just glides onto the skin so effortlessly to create a beautiful sheen wherever it's placed. It's the formula of this that wins me over, but also the colour - often rose gold shades are for darker skin tones but this one is such a gorgeous shade for fairer skin. I like to tap it on my cheekbones, brow bone, the bridge of my nose, and cupid's bow with my finger, then I'll bop my beauty blender over just to make sure it's perfectly merged in with my skin.
It's tough to think of an eyeshadow to recommend because I do tend to buy high end palettes. I'm obviously generalising, but I do think paying more for palettes is key because they are usually more pigmented and smooth. So, an honourable mention must go to Urban Decay shadows, but the palette I'm the most pleased with right now is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette. There's a mix of neutral shades and bright pops of pink and orange, both matte and shimmers, and the formula is to die for - it's so creamy and blends amazingly. I love how I can do a really simple brown eye one day and a bright sunset inspired look another.
When it comes to cream eyeshadows I actually only own two now and they're both from By Terry. I have the Ombre Blackstar in Misty Rock which I love but I do have to say that my most-worn is Bronze Moon. It's a gorgeous bronze shade which is amazing both on its own and as a base for warm shadows on top. The formula of these stick eyeshadows is incredibly soft and creamy which means they blend amazingly, and can be worn either sheered out or layered to an opaque finish. But fret not - as soon as these shadows set, they set and will not budge. As someone whose eye makeup can crease, I'm totally happy to pay for these because I never have problems with them moving.
I had to include a skincare pick, and that is the Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel. This heavenly gel turns to an oil when you massage it onto the skin, and removes any last traces of makeup while gently yet effectively cleaning your skin. To me this is worth the price because my skin looks so healthy and feels so smooth when I use it. It also feels luxury when you use it, so it's a nice treat in the mornings and evenings!
