I'm such a huge fan of podcasts. As an 'I need a tv show on in the background' person, I love having conversations going on while I'm going through my day, whether it's blogging, cooking, putting away my laundry, walking to and from uni - the list goes on. So, as a self-pronounced podcast expert, here are the ones you need to give a go...
The Empire Film Podcast >> If you love films then you'll love this. Empire is a pretty great film magazine, but I love their podcast more. Amongst interviews with cast and crew from brand new films, they chat through personal favourites and have a lot of laughs. Think a lot of reviews, news and gabs. I also love their spoiler special episodes, where they focus a whole hour or so on a particular new film and along with interviews, talk through all their thoughts and insider knowledge.
Gilmore Guys >> Ok, so it's a given that you need to be a fan of Gilmore Girls, or at least don't mind learning about the show, to enjoy this one. The premise is simple, Kevin Porter has been a fan of the show for years while Demi Adejuyigbe has never watched an episode; so they go through the series one episode at a time and chat all things Gilmore. The podcast is hilarious and as a film student I looove hearing all the interpretations of the Gilmore Guys and their special guests, and their bonus episodes with interviews of the cast and crew of Gilmore Girls are also super fun. They also went through the Year in a Life episodes and Bunheads, a show I adore!
All Killa No Filla >> Maybe one to skip if your tastes aren't as morbid as mine, but I really bloody love this podcast. Rachel Fairburn and Kiri Pritchard-McLean are two comedians who have an interest in serial killers - each episode they take a famous serial killer and look at their life from their childhood to their prosecution for the murders they have committed, in order to discuss what led that person to do it in the first place. It's actually a really hilarious podcast, although it's worth noting that none of that humour is ever made at the victim's expense. I find these ladies laugh-out-loud funny and their anecdotes really make the podcast!
The Nerdist Podcast >> This is a pretty simple concept: Chris Hardwick interviews a special guest. However, their conversations go super in-depth and are often funny and interesting. So many times I've learned things I never knew about certain celebrities I like, purely because Chris likes to talk about the person rather than the film/album/tv show/etc that they're probably promoting. A really great option if you want to just listen into an interesting conversation! If you search way back, I'd totally recommend the Paul McCartney and Silversun Pickups episodes, and Mark Hamill has a few fab episodes too.
Popcorn >> Another film one! Can you tell I've got a particular type? Mitchell Davis and Jack Ferry, along with special guests, talk through those weird-but-classic films from their childhood. I've been a fan of these guys from their episodes on Not Too Deep with Grace Helbig, and I love how their personalities handle these films - they give a good amount of analysis while also calling out how stupid some films can be! I often find myself laughing at this one, while getting nostalgic. Back to the Future Part 2, I'm looking at you.
I would love your podcast recommendations guys. I'm working my way through Jake and Amir's If I Were You podcast right now (so another special shout-out to that!) but, I want to hear your favourites. Let me know!
