Glossier: The No-Makeup Makeup Brand

Glossier is shipping to the UK! I'm sure everyone reading this knows already, but it's still pretty exciting. I used restraint when ordering and only picked up the Phase 2 Set, Milky Jelly Cleanser and Balm Dotcom. I'm going to save the details of the skincare bits until I've tried more out - I'm looking at both of those masks - but I do have to say I'm a fan! Today however, let's talk Glossier makeup...

In the Phase 2 Set you receive the Stretch Concealer, Boy Brow, and Generation G Lipstick - all of which you get to choose your preferred shade. The Stretch Concealer has such a gorgeous consistency which I've never really experienced before. It's described as an elastic texture, one which moves with your skin. I find it provides a nice amount of coverage, but looks so natural. It's actually quite dewy which I didn't think I wanted in a concealer but it means there's no cakey look! It's worth pointing out that it doesn't cover blemishes completely - it will cover most but those angry looking spots won't be totally gone. Personally I don't care about my blemishes being seen but if you're self conscious about it then it's worth keeping in mind. It still works perfectly under the eyes or covering redness around the nose and the like.

Boy Brow is very similar to Benefit's Gimme Brow, my usual tinted brow gel choice. To me they are pretty much the same, but I do prefer the colour of Boy Brow (I use Brown, and Shade 1 of Gimme Brow) as it's more cool toned and just a touch darker. It holds the brows in shape nicely while still looking very natural. If I'm going for a minimal makeup look then I'll use it on it's own, but it's also perfect for layering over a pencil/pomade/powder to add more volume and hold to your brows after filling them in.

I've heard a few people show disappointment with the Generation G Lipsticks so when I ordered mine I honestly wasn't expecting much. But I have to say, I've totally fallen for it! I got shade Like which is a mauve pink colour. The formula is matte but feels like a lip balm so it isn't drying at all. The pigment isn't very strong, so what you're left with is a very natural "my lips have been stained with fruit" look, one that is perfect for minimal makeup days where you just want a hint of colour on your lips. I'm really glad I decided to go for the pink - I don't wear pink lipstick unless it's a nude shade so it's nice having a pop of colour that is still natural!

I think the key when ordering Glossier makeup is knowing that it is all going to look very minimal. This just isn't the brand for full coverage, full on makeup looks. But if you're a fan of the natural look, or want to have a makeup wardrobe to reach for when you don't feel like your usual more intense looks, then this is the place for you. I'm really intrigued to try the Perfecting Skin Tint now, and perhaps the Haloscope highlighters! And of course, the skincare is calling to me. This isn't the last time you'll see Glossier around here, folks.
